Dalynn and Daniel

In a world of a thousand good mornings,
It is only a goodbye that haunts the soul.
To kiss a girl and start a life together—
A marvel, the wonder of our little world.

We were just kids when it all began.
Though far from old, we are seasoned now—
Seasoned in the toils of a life well-lived.
No better companion could I ever ask for
Than this girl who lies peacefully still.

Our adventure toward eternity now at rest,
While my mind searches for answers,
My heart longingly seeks her.
Not the body before me, but the spirit—
The vibrant soul that once lived within.

Only she would know what to say or do.
I think of what she would do for others,
Of that I know, and act in lesser proxy.
But of me, I know not what to do.
For she knew the man I dare not show—
Giving light to my soul's dim corridors.

With her, I dared to overcome and believe.
Now she is gone, and I must persevere.
For the others left behind she valued so.
To honor her is to tarry about in love,
A selfless pursuit of a greater good.

I lay awake with our girls, a precious gift,
And talk to you in the still of night,
Longing for one more, just one more
Night to spend in laughter and love.
But settle will I for just a simple word.

As I finally drift off to restless sleep,
I say good night to my angel up above.
Not goodbye, because there is not goodbye.
In me she lives, in soul, mind, and spirit.
In our girls, she lives beyond measure.

Perhaps in this moment when mind slows,
And gives way to the gentle whisper,
That I felt her comforting once more,
Leaving heart overflowing in gratitude,
And sobbed as our hearts rekindled.

I awoke knowing she is gone but safe,
And I too, happiness will again know.
Not without her, but because of her.
In the yellow of a daffodil blossom,
And in the touch of a Summer breeze.

But her sweet goodness magnifies
In the gift she so gave the world—
The beautiful girls that carry her
In name, in love, in care, and grace.
They are her final masterpiece.

So until we meet again, my sweet,
I will be your memories keeper,
And gaze upon you each day,
And then look up in gratitude
To the stars keeper who so chose
To make two hearts forever one.
