Fear and Hate

Some see the darkness  The violence and the pain Giving anger a voice. Others see rainbows The beauty and the goodness Naivety a choice. Most see confusion The critical state we're in Deciphering noise. Who can I believe? With so much information Where is the wisdom? Day by day I go Watching people fall behind Focus on my own The system fractures Families break at the seems Broke capitalism Gone is pure faith Replaced by bitterness Rage against society Hate thy dumb neighbor Watch news and believe it all Negativity   Both sides always wrong Walk like pigs to a slaughter Die wrong being right   Why must we all lose Fight the stupid fight of fools Our own prideful might   Till the bitter end Each other is all we have Only friend in sight   Faith the recipe Kindness the only key unlocks Hearts of you and me   Nicholas Campos - March 2024

Flood Tide

To be with you is pleasure, even though time together can sometimes become routine.  The magic hides well in the mundane and ordinary.  But your love is extraordinary in a way that words cannot describe.  As each of us must face our own insignificance, in a world that's made to forget. I find myself cleaving to the memories, passionate kisses, children's small voices and animals past.  The sadness, failures and illness are the trials that test and strengthen the bond.  Like a ship at sea, we bounce, rock and jolt in the unforgiving waters.  From hands up in excitement to holding on for dear life, we float along together.  Life is spent between low tide and high tide, we make our marks in the sand and cast about worried about the marks of others.  To live simply is best, but the pressure is to be different, unique and one of a kind, by being just like everyone else.  Our love is not fit for the free press, it is rocky, bumpy and filled with ba...

Ode To a Woman

When I look back on my greatest days, I see you.  I see the memories made, the roads paved with the very best intentions and the bridges built to accommodate the needs of the other.  I have gazed into your eyes and know of their secrets.  Within them, I have seen the gentleness of womanhood, the gift of love without condition and felt the intense concern and gratitude of being worthy of its receipt.  Within them, I have seen the reflection of the man that I need to be, steady and reliable.  Within them, I have seen the soft tears of motherhood and found comfort in the knowledge that at least one of us was a natural.  Those eyes are my well spring, my true North, ever guiding me to my better self.  The gift that comes from becoming the man that I want to be, for the woman that I want to be him with.

The Prayer

In my minds eye, I can see a small country house with a fire burning on a cold evening.  Slowly, the sun is chased away by the chill of evenings glare.  Outside sits a horse stall, vacant still since morning.  The ruts of the wagon road lay untouched, by tracks of man since.  The hay sits primed and ready, earned by a spring on the plow.  For the work is never done, to keep the status quo.  For nothing be gained by circumstance, but only by their brow.  Inside she tucks in children, tired from their playing.  Their world is big and full of adventure, after chores are done each day.  Evenings are filled with books and learning.  They rest their heads with prayer of safety, sent for their father.  Oh the worry that night doth bring, her cold and eerie gaze.  They drift off to sleep in humble heart, knowing of the faith.  As Mom sits with watchful gaze, waiting for the gallop of four trimmed hooves.  Her prayer will not ...
